Election season is again upon us. This year we'll be electing all of the Even Area Directors and the Club President. These positions all carry a two-year term and all newly elected officers will begin their terms on March 1st, 2018.
All candidates must be Club Members (must hold a 100-Point Certificate from any of our nets). Candidates for Area Director must live in the call area they will represent. Candidates for President may live in any call area.
Nominations for the above offices will open on November 1st, 2017.
Potential candidates for Area Director must nominate themselves by announcing their candidacy on one of the Club's scheduled nets and then follow up by informing both the Club President and the Chairman of the Board, who will then notify the Election Monitor to place them on the Ballot. Nominations for Area Director will run thru midnight November 30th, 2017 Central Time.
Candidates for the office of President must be nominated by their own Area Director at a meeting of the Board of Directors. We must have a minimum of two candidates for President, and a maximum of 11. Nominations for President will run thru the adjournment of the regularly scheduled Board Meeting in December, and in no case later than December 20th, 2017.
Before seeking nomination, all candidates for office should familiarize themselves thoroughly with the duties of the office as found in our Constitution and Bylaws. These can be demanding jobs, requiring your presence at every Board Meeting and that you engage in discussion of the topics at hand prior to the meeting so any questions you may have are resolved and you're prepared to vote knowledgeably.
As we have done for several past elections, each candidate for office is strongly encouraged to submit a personal statement to the Webmaster for inclusion on the Ballot. Any statement submitted will NOT be edited for content, but there is a very strong preference that it be fairly brief and to the point and that it focus on why you want the office you are seeking and what you think you can contribute to the Club while holding that office. As a small encouragement for brevity and conciseness, candidates for each office will be placed on the ballot in order based on the length of their personal statements... shortest thru longest, with no statement being last.
Voting on-line, via email and via postal mail will begin January 1, 2018 Central Time and will run thru January 15, 2018 Central Time. Voting on-line will be via our Club Website and ballots cast via email and postal mail will be sent to an Election Monitor who will named below and in postings to the three major reflectors before voting begins. Ballots cast by email or postal mail must arrive by January 15th, 2018. There will be a final opportunity to vote for President on the air on a net to be run January 15th, 2018 local, January 16th, 2018 UTC, subject to the ability to run such a net. It is VERY STRONGLY suggested that you cast your ballot on-line to avoid the risk of propagation problems, QRM, (etc) on a net, or delays in postal mail delivery. DO NOT vote on the air if you have already voted by other means.
SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN VOTING:
- DO NOT vote for an Area Director unless you live in the area he/she will represent.
- A ballot that accidentally selects no candidates for any office may be recast, but once a valid ballot for any candidate on the ballot has been cast, you MAY NOT cast another ballot.
- Anyone casting a ballot containing personal identifying information other than his/her own is committing election fraud. Such persons will be reported to the Board of Directors, and **all** ballots cast by such persons will be voided.
Barring some unlikely circumstance, results of the election for all offices will be announced no later than Jan 16th, 2018 local day.
To be eligible to vote, you must be an individual Club Member (must hold a 100-Point Certificate from any of our nets). Clubs, special event calls and anyone whose club membership has been revoked are not eligible to vote. You will need to know your 100-Point Certificate number and the band/mode on which it is held when voting.
Emailed and postal mailed ballots must ARRIVE no later than Jan 15th, 2018 and you must include your full name, call sign, 100-Point Certificate Number and the band and mode on which that certificate is held. You must indicate the name(s) of your chosen candidate(s) and the office(s) they are running for. You must include your state of residence if you are voting for Area Director. Including an email address or telephone number would be helpful in case you need to be contacted about your ballot. No attempt will be made to contact anyone not providing either an email address or telephone number.
All who vote on-line, via email or via postal mail who also provide an email address will be sent a confirmation of their vote via email. Because this email will be manually prepared, it won't appear immediately after your ballot is cast... and some may be received only after the polls close.

Winning candidates must receive more than 50% of the votes cast for the office for which they are running. If no candidate for a given office receives over 50% of the votes cast for that office, a runoff election will be held between the two candidates receiving the most votes for the office. If such a runoff is required, it will be held beginning January 26th, 2018 and will run thru February 7th, 2018. There will be no on-air voting in any runoff election.
After the nominating period for Area Director closes, you may view a Ballot listing the candidates for Area Director, along with an optional brief statement by each candidate who chose to submit one. Likewise, after the nominating period for President closes, the candidates for President will be added to the ballot. This same ballot will be used to record your on-line vote when voting begins and it will not be functional until voting begins.
This is your club, and this election is your opportunity to choose the elected officers who manage its daily operations, so please take the time to acquaint yourselves with the candidates, and then cast your vote for the candidate(s) of your choice.
All dates and times above are based on Central Standard Time unless noted otherwise. Our web server will time stamp your on-line ballot and any votes received after voting officially ends will not be counted.
